Societal and scientific environmental issues relating to the atmospheric
sciences have attained a new prominence during the past decade, and likely will
continue to be important in the years to come. Climatic change has been the most
recent issue, but others such as acid rain, depletion of stratospheric ozone,
and severe weather conditions have also been of great public concern. Each of
these issues (and others that will emerge) has global, national, and local
environmental perspectives that need to be addressed. It is the purpose of this
option to address these issues. The option includes atmospheric modeling,
climate & weather analysis, hydrometeorology, and air pollution
characterization, prediction, and control.
