Environmental Sciences Seminar Abstract Dioxins and Related
Substances: Are Regulators Measuring the Right Chemicals? Most chemicals are regulated as
individual compounds. Dioxins, however, are treated as toxicologically related
substances. Most regulatory programs look at 17 substances and a few include 29
chemicals. The list can reasonably be expanded to include thousands of
dioxin-like compounds few of which are measured. Bioassays may be able to bridge
