Seminar Abstract
Controlled Environment Crop Production: Food, Flowers, Photons, And Flow
Concerned about our impact on the environment, surging fuel and food prices, limited use of renewable energy sources and sustainable production practices? Are you planning to grow your own vegetables this summer? If not, is the NJ green industry working on solutions? Controlled environment crop production (CECP) systems offer a level of control that allows producers to maximize yield while minimizing resource inputs. In addition, CECP systems are the logical choice when food safety issues and/or containment are of concern. In this seminar I will review the state of the art, discuss research on CECP system design and operation, as well as energy generation using alternative fuels. I will close with some thoughts on where the industry is heading and how research and education can contribute to the success of this important segment of the NJ economy. Last updated: 04/18/2008 |
